COMING up with a few choice words written in a christening card is surprisingly tricky.
For a start who do you actually address the card to, the new born child or the parents? Our guide will give you some tips.
There doesn’t seem to be any hard and fast rule about this.
Technically the card really should be addressed to the baby as, after all, it is their christening but some see that as a bit pointless as the toddler can’t read and won’t be able to for a good few years yet.
But the parents might keep all the cards and gifts safely tucked away for the youngster to look at when they are older and it might give an extra special touch if they see a card addressed to them.
Don’t go overboard and get all gooey and sentimental, certainly express your feelings but don’t get carried away.
Don’t get all flowery and gushing.
Do keep it short and express your feelings.
Do give your best wishes to the baby.
When it comes to saying something succinct and thoughtful, Funkypigeon has some good suggestions:
1. To the cutest baby boy/girl in town, congratulations on your special day today. I want to send my all best wishes for your future and hope it will be filled only with good health and happiness, together with your parents.
2. I hope today’s christening starts a flow of happiness and enjoyment for you for in all the days of your life.
3. Wishing you a day full of lovely memories as you’re surrounded by those who love and care about you. Congratulations on your christening.
4. I wish you a lifetime of love and happiness, and I can’t wait to watch who you become as you grow up.
5. This christening day is special for your baby and you… so may it bring you blessings to last your lifetime.
Some like to include a pertinent saying or quote which can work better than some garbled message that misses the mark.
But best to avoid copying out who hunks of poetry, just quote the relevant bits.
Anyone with strong religious convictions can always dip into the Bible for inspiration.
“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3:27.
“Whoever welcomes a child in my name, welcomes me.” Luke 9:46-48.
A baby will make love stronger
Days shorter, Nights longer
Bankroll smaller, Clothes shabbier,
The past forgotten,
And the future worth living for.

A baby is a gift, a blessing that makes our lives worthwhile,
As they complete us, give us purpose and always manage to make us smile.
Their cuddles, snuggles, and soft kisses can brighten up any day.
